About The Position

The Operating Room Assistant is responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room. This position requires patient care and involves promoting a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patients, families, and hospital personnel. The assistant will provide hospital/unit orientation information for guests, patients, and families, demonstrate an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, and refer patients and families to appropriate resources. Additionally, the role includes independently transporting and assisting in the transfer of patients while ensuring safety and support measures are in place.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care Experience preferred.
  • Operating Room Experience preferred.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team.
  • Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patient, families and hospital personnel.
  • Provides hospital/unit orientation information for guests, patients and families.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, procedure areas and other patient services.
  • Refers patients, families and others to appropriate resources.
  • Independently transports and assists in the transfer of patients.
  • Properly identifies patients utilizing 2 approved identifiers.
  • Ensures safety and support measures in patient transfer (i.e. bedrails raised, patient covered with blanket and warm).
  • Is aware of special precautions in transferring patients with precautions.
