Operating Engineer – JLL What this job involves: Join JLL as an Operating Engineer and play a vital role in maintaining state-of-the-art facility operations within a Data Center environment. In this position, you'll apply your technical expertise across multiple building trades to ensure seamless facility performance and tenant satisfaction. You'll perform a diverse range of repairs and maintenance activities including plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical systems, and HVAC preventive maintenance in commercial and office settings. Your hands-on work with critical systems such as rooftop units, backup generators, UPS systems, and building automation will directly support mission-critical operations. Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in electrical and HVAC trade, including rooftop units and backup systems (generator and UPS)
  • Experience with Data Center settings, operations, and protocol
  • Experience performing repairs and maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, painting and wall repair, machine servicing, electrical repairs, and HVAC preventive maintenance, repairs, and installation
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of building automation, water treatment, and fire life safety systems
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and a positive team attitude
  • Familiarity with computers and office automation applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk long distances, bend, and lift objects up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to work long hours occasionally and some weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Universal CFC certification
  • Additional certifications in electrical, HVAC, or related building systems
  • Experience working in large commercial or Data Center facilities
  • Advanced knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and building automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Control the daily operation of all mechanical equipment in the physical plant and buildings
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to maintain applicable standards
  • Monitor and maintain responsibility for tenant services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency
  • Monitor operation and maintain refrigeration, water cooling and air conditioning equipment, boilers, heating, ventilating and hot water equipment, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Complete all tenant service requests accurately and expediently
  • Formulate and implement the preventative maintenance program for the building
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks in a timely manner
  • Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors
  • Evaluate building systems to monitor and improve performance for efficient operation
  • Comply with all policies and procedures established for the building
  • Actively participate in emergency response procedures, technical and safety training programs
  • Perform all work using proper safety equipment and in a safe manner
  • Participate in rotating on-call assignments with Facilities Services.
