Operating Engineer – Union - Part Time - JLL What this job involves: The Operating Engineer role focuses on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all building systems. This position requires technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations) while maintaining multi-skilled capabilities in others. You will ensure facilities operate safely and efficiently in accordance with all government and regulatory requirements while delivering exceptional customer service to our clients. What your day-to-day will look like:

Requirements

  • High school diploma or state equivalent
  • Minimum of two years college or related trade school education
  • Minimum of four years' experience in electrician trade OR four years' experience in HVAC/refrigeration trade
  • City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License
  • Ability to lift minimum of 80 lbs and perform physical work including climbing, bending, and working at heights
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of building systems focused on achieving operating cost efficiency
  • Practical experience with thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Experience with computer-controlled equipment
  • Strong aptitude for troubleshooting complex facility systems
  • Experience with safety policies, procedures, and hazardous materials handling

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate facility systems in compliance with all applicable government and regulatory requirements
  • Perform maintenance and monitoring repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, and fire/life safety systems
  • Maintain HVAC systems and equipment at optimum levels through cleaning, inspecting, and parts replacement
  • Record readings and make equipment adjustments to ensure proper operation
  • Monitor pricing and work quality of outside contractors
  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist management with emergency situations including fire alarms, chemical spills, and hazardous conditions
