About The Position

Under general supervision, the Operating Engineer performs a variety of routine or skilled preventive maintenance duties in the repair, alteration, and modification of buildings, equipment and facilities. The position involves upholding Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws. The engineer inspects equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition, maintains routine records, and determines the type and extent of any malfunction of equipment. They adjust, disassemble, repair or replace parts or components, reassemble, and test for proper operation. More serious problems are reported to the Chief Engineer for instructions or maintenance scheduling. The role may include attending to gas fired steam boilers, hot water boilers, and heaters, making necessary adjustments to assure proper steam pressure, combustion, water flow, water level, and proper operation of safety devices and auxiliary equipment. The engineer tests boiler water and adds chemicals as necessary, services and makes repairs to heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, and performs a variety of general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alteration, and repairs to machinery, equipment, or facilities as assigned. This includes routine electrical maintenance, general mechanical maintenance, plumbing maintenance, general welding, and various routine manual duties.

Requirements

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience in Building Plant Operations and Maintenance within the last year.
  • Associate of Arts Degree in Engineering or technical disciplines in Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or equivalent.
  • Drivers License (in location where applicable).
  • Universal Chlorofluorocarbons Certificate within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of equipment, controls, and building automation maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Responsibilities

  • Test boiler water and add chemicals as necessary.
  • Service and make repairs to heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Perform general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alteration, and repairs to machinery, equipment, or facilities.
  • Perform routine electrical maintenance and replacement or alteration of circuit wiring, switches, and control equipment.
  • Perform general plumbing maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform general welding tasks.
  • Perform routine maintenance duties such as repair and assemble extension cords, replace fuses, and clean motors.
  • Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations with personnel and the public.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
