About The Position

The position involves maintaining active surveillance of the pool area and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The hours for this role are from 5:45am to 9:00am, Monday through Friday. The lifeguard is responsible for responding to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, completing related reports, and applying safety rules consistently. The role requires the lifeguard to remain calm under pressure, maintain accurate records, perform equipment checks, and conduct chemical testing as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 18.
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification.
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately.
• Completes related reports as required.
• Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
• Applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Remains calm and objective when under pressure.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.
