About The Position

Northeastern University invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level beginning in academic year 2026-27 in addiction sciences. The successful candidate will conduct a research program involving human populations. Areas of research focus that are of interest include human behavioral pharmacology methods, specifically experimental designs involving substance administration in a laboratory context; cannabis use; electronic cigarette use/vaping; technology-based assessment and/or interventions; and artificial intelligence (AI) methods. This position will be located at Northeastern University’s campus in Boston and successful candidates will be expected to work in the Boston-area. Candidates at any rank are encouraged to apply and will be evaluated based on their level of experience (i.e., candidates at the assistant rank will not be expected to have credentials on par with associate or full professor candidates). Successful candidates will be appointed primarily in the Department of Public Health and Health Sciences in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences. Cross-disciplinary research programs and appointments are strongly encouraged at Northeastern, and may be possible for this position. Accordingly, secondary appointments in the School of Law or the College of Science are possible, depending on research and/or teaching focus. Faculty members will have the opportunity to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams across the University and will complement existing strengths, and they will have the opportunity to join and collaborate on University initiatives. There is strong potential for collaborations on translational research with investigators from the Center for Drug Discovery, the Institute for Experiential AI, the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, the College of Social Sciences and the Humanities, the College of Arts, Media and Design, and other units at Northeastern. The successful candidate will be located in Boston and have a primary appointment in one of the departments in Bouvé, with the possibility of a joint appointment based on the candidate’s disciplinary fit.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a public health field (e.g., health behavior, epidemiology), psychology (clinical/counseling or experimental), neuroscience, pharmaceutical science, or a related field required by the employment start date.
  • Candidates must articulate or demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate/graduate teaching excellence and a record of interdisciplinary scholarly achievement commensurate with rank.
  • The successful applicant will have a robust research portfolio and demonstrate a history of extramural funding, or the promise to secure such funding.
  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate level should have a minimum of 5 years and Full Professor level should have a minimum of 10 years of academic or related industry experience with substantial research productivity and an established history of grant support and service.
