The College of Professional Studies is one of nine colleges of Northeastern University, a nationally ranked private research university. The College teaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students on campus and online in more than 90 programs. Faculty members teach in both in-person and online modalities. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities, a dedication to continued improvement as an educator, and alignment with the scholar-practitioner model. Experience teaching at the master’s level, developing on ground and online courses, and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the broader analytics field and will possess experience working in industry in analytics or data science. The ideal candidate will have a record demonstrating their expertise and engagement in analytics as both a practitioner and instructor. Beyond the classroom, the candidate will engage in service to the department, college, and university, as well as professional development. The position is a full-time, open rank, non-tenure track, renewable appointment located in Oakland, CA.

  • Teach core courses, such as introduction to Analytics, Probability and Statistics, Data Communication and Visualization, as well as concentration courses in the areas of Applied Machine Intelligence, Evidence Based Management, and Statistical Modeling.
  • Develop and implement course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, resource guides, textbooks, syllabi templates, and updated course materials.
  • Oversee the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum.
  • Support the Program Lead and Program Manager in the selection of instructors, advising on syllabi, and evaluating instructor performance.
  • Identify and provide recommendations to keep curriculum relevant and industry leading.
  • Work with the Program Lead to ensure regional programs meet license/accreditation requirements.
  • Create modularity guidelines and recommendations for program content integration across the programs and regional campuses.
  • Collaborate with the Program Lead and Mills campus staff to establish the Analytics program within the Oakland market.
  • Create and support local events to add value to the experience of Analytics students at the Mills campus.
  • Coordinate with the Program Lead and leadership of the Mills campus in the creation and management of local industry advisory boards.
  • Represent the program in regional orientations, open house events, and admitted student events.
  • Track the progress of Analytics students in Mills in conjunction with campus staff.
  • Identify and engage possible co-op and experiential learning sponsors.
  • Participate in program and faculty committee meetings.
  • Assess and enhance instructional quality of courses by offering follow-up coaching to part time faculty.
  • Collaborate with the Program Lead to recruit and vet qualified candidates for part time faculty positions.
  • Assist the program in the onboarding of new part time faculty and maintain ongoing communications and mentorship.
  • A terminal degree from an accredited institution in computer science, statistics, analytics, data science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in advanced analytics or data science.
  • Excellent written and oral communication as well as presentation skills.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level, including online course development and facilitation.
  • Experience mentoring students from a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Fluency in R and Python as well as familiarity with commonly used tools and techniques in analytics (Tableau, Spark, SQL, etc.).
