About The Position

The University of Pikeville seeks an innovative, energetic and collaborative candidate to assume the position of Assistant/Associate/Professor of Pathology. This full-time position is under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Biomedical Sciences. The position is directly responsible for teaching, research, and service in Pathology. Approximately 550 medical students, 30 full-time faculty, and a variety of clinical partners are part of the KYCOM team. The Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is ranked second among all D.O. and M.D. granting medical schools in the U.S. for graduates practicing in primary care and second for those practicing in rural areas. Since 1997, KYCOM’s guiding principle has always been to educate physicians to serve underserved and rural areas, with an emphasis on primary care. Nestled in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains near a growing regional hospital, KYCOM’s graduates are well prepared to enter high-quality and rigorous graduate medical education residencies.

Requirements

  • Must have an earned Doctorate in Pathology or a related field.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong critical thinking, anticipatory problem-solving, and attention to detail are required.

  • Must have current knowledge and skills in utilizing Microsoft Office Applications, including but not limited to Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be able to learn and utilize Learning Management Systems such as Canvas and the University's online platform and systems.
  • Must demonstrate cooperation, courtesy, and consideration when working with the professional community, KYCOM, KYCO, and UPIKE communities, faculty, students, and the public.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Alignment with the University of Pikeville and KYCOM missions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for teaching in one or more of the Biomedical Science courses, including Human Pathology.
  • Preparation of lectures, lecture notes, learning objectives, PowerPoint slides, exam questions, and syllabi.
  • Participates in and recommends curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Fostering an engaging learning environment with innovative pedagogical practices.
  • Active in research and other scholarly activities and an interest in student collaborative research initiatives.
  • Actively serves on appointed KYCOM Faculty and UPIKE Committees.
  • Provides mentoring, advising, and guidance to students.
  • Responsible for other duties directed by the Associate Dean of Biomedical Sciences or the KYCOM Dean.
  • Attends Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, and University of Pikeville Opening Convocation.
  • Participates in Faculty Development.
  • Assists in the selection of students to attend KYCOM.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Biomedical Sciences or the KYCOM Dean.
