The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) invites applications for an open rank tenure-line professor position that will begin on August 18, 2025. This is a full-time, 9-month position with a focus on applied mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a robust and independent research program, which includes mentoring and advising both undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty members are encouraged to seek external research funding and will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, advising, and mentoring. Additionally, candidates are expected to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and a commitment to justice within their teaching and research practices. Participation in program and course development is also a key responsibility, along with service to the Department, College, and University. Candidates must have completed a PhD in statistics, applied math, or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is committed to providing engaging and contemporary learning environments for all students, including opportunities for research engagement both inside and outside the classroom. The department offers undergraduate programs in Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science, as well as a master's program in Mathematical Sciences with specializations in statistics or mathematics. Collaboration opportunities exist with faculty across campus and with scientists and engineers at various research institutes and agencies.
