About The Position

The College of Health Professions is one of six colleges of South Carolina’s only academic health center and is among the largest colleges by student numbers at MUSC. This Principal Faculty role at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Physician Assistant (PA) Program is a full-time position focused on teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, and scholarly activities. The faculty member will deliver didactic and clinical education, contribute to accreditation processes, and engage in interprofessional collaboration. The position includes opportunities for clinical practice and requires participation in program events, admissions, and university committees. Faculty members are expected to foster strong relationships with students, ensure high-quality educational experiences for students, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the PAS program. This is a non-tenured track position. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field
  • Current NCCPA certification (if a PA) or appropriate licensure/certification in a relevant healthcare profession
  • Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in South Carolina and healthcare discipline as applicable
  • At least three years of clinical experience in a relevant healthcare field
  • Excellent communication, organizational, self-motivation, and leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DHSc, or equivalent) in education, leadership, or a clinical field
  • Previous experience in PA education, including clinical precepting, teaching, administrative, or leadership roles
  • Record of scholarly contributions (e.g., publications, presentations) in PA education or clinical practice
  • Experience with ARC-PA accreditation, site visits, or program self-studies

Responsibilities

  • Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the program’s mission statement, goals, and competencies
  • Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program
  • Providing student instruction
  • Evaluating student performance
  • Academic counseling of students
  • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction
  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum
  • Evaluating the program
  • Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of summative assessments
  • Engage in professional service at the local, state, or national level to represent and advance the PA profession and program
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations
  • Serve on program, college, and university committees as needed
  • Participate in program graduation and white coat ceremonies
  • Contribute to the ongoing self-study and accreditation processes for the PA program
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain clinical and educational expertise
  • Clinical practice release time, up to 0.2 FTE
