About The Position

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time fixed term faculty open rank position to lead proteomics initiatives within the UNC Metabolomics and Proteomics ( MAP ) Core Facility. Operating within the Department of Pharmacology, the MAP Core is a university-operated recharge center offering state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics services to internal and external collaborators. As a full-service facility, we support every stage of project execution from consultation and sample preparation to mass spectrometry acquisition and data analysis, using advanced instrumentation, including Thermo Orbitrap Astral, Exploris 480, and Q Exactive HF mass spectrometers; multiple LC platforms (Thermo Vanquish Neo, Ultimate 3000, Evosep One); CE systems (908 Devices ZipChip); an Agilent offline HPLC fraction collector; and automated sample preparation platforms (Seer One and Thermo Accelerome). The successful candidate will help maintain and establish collaborative research projects, support grant funding efforts (e.g., NIH , NSF ), contribute to publications in leading journals, and advance the department’s educational and research mission while fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across the university. Initial consideration will be given for applications submitted by February 1, 2026.

  • Experienced in overseeing and advancing complex proteomics projects, including global quantitative proteomics, phosphoproteomics, PTM analysis, and chemoproteomics.
  • Proficient in developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting LC-MS workflows and instrumentation, demonstrating expert-level problem-solving for complex systems.
  • Knowledgeable in statistical and bioinformatics tools (R, Python preferred), as well as integrating proteomics with multi-omics strategies to support high-impact collaborative research initiatives.
  • Skilled in mentoring and guiding junior scientists and technical staff in proteomics methods and data analysis, fostering technical excellence and team growth.
  • Proven track record in contributing strategically to grant proposals, manuscripts, and the development of proteomics capabilities, showcasing strong communication and organizational leadership.
  • Prior experience working in a core facility or highly collaborative research environment.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for complex LC-MS instrumentation and related technologies.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to foster collaboration, manage projects, and support grant development.
