About The Position

We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body for Open Rank Clinical Faculty of School of Nursing beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. Duties may include teaching students in classrooms, simulated laboratories, and clinical settings as well as student advisement. Additional efforts in professional achievement and professional service are expected, and experience working with ethnically diverse populations is a plus. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly work, student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions and are committed to UTRGV's strategic plan, vision, mission, values and core priorities (https://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/). Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications. See below: Clinical Assistant Professor: Minimum of a Masters degree in Nursing. Nursing faculty are expected to show promise in teaching effectiveness, educational leadership, and service. Clinical Associate Professor: Minimum of a Masters degree in Nursing. Have at least 6 years of experience as Clinical Assistant Professor. Nursing faculty must achieve high levels of performance in teaching effectiveness, professional achievement, and service to the University, and the School of Nursing. Clinical Professor: Minimum of a Masters degree in Nursing. Have at least 6 years of experience as Clinical Associate Professor. For additional information, please visit UTRGV website. Department/College Background The School of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nursing. These degrees include a traditional BSN and 2nd degree BSN pre-licensure degree, an RN to BSN, along with graduate degrees in Family Nurse Practitioner, a Post-graduate certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health NP and our new Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) that started in Fall 2022. Our faculty teach on two campuses, in both Edinburg and in Brownsville. We have full simulation labs that offer state of the art educational opportunities for all our students. We collaborate with the other health science programs at UTRGV on interdisciplinary clinical experiences and work with hospitals throughout the entire Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV is committed to preparing its students to succeed, and seeks faculty who are prepared to help in this goal.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing degree in addition to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas prior to beginning the position.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven leadership experience in a clinical practice setting
  • previous teaching experience at the baccalaureate and/or graduate level(s) with ethnically diverse populations
  • evidence of strong potential for teaching effectiveness, educational leadership, and clinical scholarship
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited university is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in delivering presentations at professional conferences, publishing in reputable journals, submitting successful grant proposals, and securing grant or other external funding.
