About The Position

This is a faculty position responsible to the Chairman of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery who reports to the Head of the Division of Surgery. The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. The position provides clinical expertise for patients referred for care at the Northwest MD Anderson satellite facility, managing care and providing a teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students in the specialty of head and neck surgery.

Requirements

  • Completed the M.D. degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent.
  • Licensed by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Board certified in Otolaryngology.
  • Generally 5 years as Assistant Professor or equivalent of 10 years post clinical degree.
  • Must possess a currently valid and active Texas Medical license to practice medicine in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Practice clinical surgery in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the American College of Surgeons.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical head and neck surgery practice for head and neck surgical patients referred to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Provide physician staffing for the outpatient head and neck surgery clinic and the inpatient head and neck service.
  • Visually review for proper CPT coding and approve all surgical procedure charge documents within 5 working days.
  • Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy.
  • Correspond with referring physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences.
  • Provide a role model in head and neck surgery for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
  • Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.
  • Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested.
  • Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department.
  • Develop programs of clinical and basic science research and scholarly activities.
  • Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research.
  • Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in the head and neck sciences for fellows and residents.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate written learning materials for the graduate curriculum in head and neck surgery.
  • Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to head and neck surgery.
  • Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
  • Represent the Department of Head and Neck Surgery in local, regional, state, and national matters.
