About The Position

The primary purpose of the Open Rank faculty position is to provide expert clinical care to patients with gastrointestinal cancers, participate in translational and or/clinical research and participate in the teaching and training of fellows, residents and students.

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible for medical licensure in Texas.
  • Possess an M.D.
  • At least two (2) years as Instructor or (5) years post clinical degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist or GME trainee.
  • Appropriate post medical doctoral training per discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners properly balanced with other academic activities.
  • Capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
  • Perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician's subspecialty.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Provide physician staffing as appropriate for a training center and consult service.
  • Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within four working days.
  • Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy.
  • Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences.
  • Share clinical responsibilities with other faculty including inpatient service, outpatient clinic and outpatient procedures.
  • Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
  • Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department.
  • Participate in quality improvement and institutional effectiveness or healthcare excellence projects.
  • Participate in investigation and review of best practice initiatives and clinical and institutional effectiveness projects.
  • Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by the Chair.
  • Represent the Department by participating or presenting at local, regional, state, and national meetings in the field of medical oncology.
  • Actively engage in clinical and translational research and scholarly activities.
  • Develop research programs of scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the department.
  • Identify grants and funding sources for funding of research, submit grants and protocols, and develop budgets.
  • Acts as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents and students.
  • Attend and participate in Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
  • Supervise trainees as needed during their clinical rotations.
  • Participate in external or extramural service such as external research committees, collaborative research activities, and professional society activities.
  • Edit and/or review presentations for scientific meetings, seminars, or public dissemination of research findings.
