About The Position

The Department of Pathology & Cell Biology at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenured or tenure track, Open Rank faculty position in a broad area of cardiovascular research. We are particularly interested in researchers utilizing animal models to study cardiovascular development and disease. This position will be academically appointed to the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology and will include opportunities to interact with researchers both on the main USF campus and at the USF Health Heart Institute. Opened in 2020 in downtown Tampa, the USF Health Heart Institute is a modern research facility within four floors totaling 100,000 square feet, dedicated to cardiovascular and related research, including clinical trials targeting new ways to manage, prevent, and cure cardiovascular disease.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • Postdoctoral research experience and at least one externally funded grant award (NIH R01 or equivalent, K99/R00 awards are acceptable for applicants at the Assistant Professor level) are required.

Nice To Haves

  • For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, sustained independent research funding, and professional research service are also preferred as is experience utilizing animal models.

Responsibilities

  • RESEARCH -The primary duties of this position will be research-related, including performing basic and translational research related to heart disease, publishing in major peer-reviewed journals and maintaining NIH and other grant funding.
  • TEACHING -Teaching duties may include mentoring postdoctoral research scholars and/or PhD graduate assistants. This position may also present opportunities to teach both graduate and undergraduate medical school students.
  • OTHER -Service/Leadership duties may include serving on Institute, College, or University committees and councils. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Chair of the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology.
  • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
  • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
  • Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
  • May represent the university, college/school, or department.
