About The Position

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is seeking an Open Rank (Assistant/Associate/Full) Professor of Communication to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. This position focuses on developing and directing the introductory course in communication, training and supervising instructors and graduate teaching assistants, and conducting research in applied communication contexts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching and research, with a Ph.D. in communication or a related field by the appointment date.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Communication from an accredited university (ABD will be considered if the doctorate is conferred by August 31, 2025).
• Experience teaching at the college level.
• Evidence of experience or demonstrated competence in coordinating basic courses at the college level.
• For Associate Professor: Ability to independently conduct programmatic research activities and a high degree of teaching proficiency.
• For Full Professor: Exemplary record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and a distinguished record of accomplishments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and direct the multi-section introductory course for the department (Intro to Communication).
• Train and supervise all related instructors and graduate teaching assistants as the Director of the Hauser Communication Research Lab.
• Conduct research involving graduate students in applied communication contexts.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in instructional communication and quantitative communication research methods.
