About The Position

The Role: General Motors is seeking a highly skilled Onsite & Test Cell Support Technician to provide hands‑on technical assistance across both traditional end‑user environments and mission‑critical Test Cell operations. This role is focused on troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex hardware and system issues, partnering closely with engineers, calibration teams, operators, IT groups, and third‑party vendors to ensure maximum uptime and reliable test operations. What You’ll Do: Diagnose, repair, and replace PCs, rugged/semi‑rugged laptops, peripherals, printers, plotters, and engineering accessories. Resolve device and component‑level failures (e.g. NVMe drives, RAM, motherboards, screens, keyboards). Execute device imaging, configuration, and data transfer using approved tools. Investigate recurring or complex issues and perform root‑cause analysis. Troubleshoot issues affecting test cell workstations, calibration laptops and diagnostic hardware. Support engineering software and calibration applications. Collaborate with Test Cell Operations to ensure reliability and limited downtime. Support Test Cell builds, Windows Long Term Servicing Channel environments, patching and security compliance. Partner with internal IT teams and external vendors for escalations. Manage ServiceNow tickets with accurate logging and asset tracking. Support onboarding/offboarding hardware prep, refresh cycles, and equipment lifecycle. Maintain a secure, organized workspace aligned with GM safety and data policies. Work Environment Onsite at GM facilities and Test Cell labs with occasional travel to local sites as needed. Standard business hours with occasional after-hours for critical testing. Frequent interaction with engineers, operators, IT, and vendors. Performance Metrics Ticket response and resolution times. Quality of troubleshooting and problem-solving. Customer satisfaction. Accuracy of documentation and asset management. Adherence to safety, security, and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across PCs, laptops, peripherals, and engineering hardware.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required; experience in lab, test cell, or engineering workstation environments is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Ability to follow standardized procedures for imaging, repair, and asset handling.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Physical ability to lift and move equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in one or more of these operating systems: Windows 7, 10, 11, MAC, Linux Ubuntu
  • Strong understanding of client server hardware and software applications
  • Experience with calibration/test cell workflows and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong understanding of private networks
  • Good understanding of LAN/WAN infrastructure and segmentation
