About The Position

The Onsite Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and Superintendent in coordinating, executing, and documenting construction activities to ensure successful project delivery. This role serves as the primary technical and administrative resource onsite, responsible for field-to-office communication, maintaining project documentation, monitoring construction progress, managing subcontractor coordination, and ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in supporting project planning, procurement, and closeout while helping ensure the project remains on schedule, within budget, and aligned with all contractual requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a construction field engineering or project coordination role with a general contractor.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and organize construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with field teams and office staff.
  • Experience with construction project management software (AutoDesk, Procore, Bluebeam, or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Excel, document control, and construction-related administrative workflows.
  • Problem-solving mentality with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Estimating experience or exposure to buyout processes preferred (projects $5M+).

Responsibilities

  • Support the Superintendent and Project Manager with daily onsite construction coordination.
  • Ensure subcontractor work aligns with plans, specifications, and the project schedule.
  • Monitor field progress and report delays, issues, or changes affecting schedule or quality.
  • Participate in daily/weekly coordination meetings and maintain consistent communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Maintain current drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and logs onsite and in project software.
  • Prepare, submit, track, and archive RFIs and submittals.
  • Manage and update project logs including observations, materials tracking, and progress documentation.
  • Assist with preparing work plans, schedule updates, and coordination documents.
  • Assist with buyout tasks including gathering bids, comparing proposals, and drafting subcontract documents.
  • Track procurement and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to resolve delivery or scope issues.
  • Assist with tracking project costs, potential change orders, and budget status.
  • Review subcontractor invoices and support preparation of owner pay applications.
  • Draft and issue change orders under direction of the Project Manager.
  • Perform onsite observations to ensure work meets contract quality requirements.
  • Support safety compliance efforts and report potential hazards.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and ensure documentation of results.
  • Maintain compliance records including insurance, preliminary notices, and subcontractor prequalification.
  • Assist in preparing and collecting closeout materials including as-builts, warranties, and O&M manuals.
  • Track punch list progress and help coordinate corrective actions.
  • Submit closeout documents through client platforms and support final turnover.
