About The Position

The Online Financial Aid Coordinator position within Louisiana State University's Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is a pivotal role aimed at enhancing student access and supporting the university's objectives. This position operates under the general oversight of the Assistant Director of Special Populations and is responsible for the direct supervision of an online financial aid counselor. The coordinator will maintain financial aid communication with both current and prospective students and their families, ensuring that they receive accurate and timely information regarding financial aid options and processes. In the realm of Financial Aid Counseling, which constitutes 60% of the role, the coordinator will manage the activities related to the awarding of federal and state aid programs. This includes overseeing the selection, renewal, cancellation, and resolution of over-award situations for online degree students. The coordinator will provide counseling and advice to prospective and enrolled students on various federal and state financial aid programs, such as Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, TEACH Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Direct Loan Programs. This interaction may occur through phone calls, in-person meetings, or written communications, necessitating a high level of accuracy in conveying financial aid policies and procedures. The coordinator will also engage in detailed outreach efforts to assist students in navigating the application processes and resolving any issues that arise. The Financial Aid Operations aspect of the role, accounting for 30% of the responsibilities, involves resolving over-award situations and ensuring compliance with financial aid regulations. The coordinator will serve as a member of the satisfactory academic progress appeals committee and assist in the review and certification of Direct PLUS loan requests. Daily correspondence and award letters will be reviewed for accuracy, and the coordinator will play a key role in retaining students by providing outreach to at-risk populations. Additionally, the coordinator will engage in special projects, which make up 10% of the role. This includes serving as the primary liaison to Digital and Continuing Education, responding to inquiries, and ensuring that student needs are met promptly. The coordinator will also be responsible for creating and maintaining training materials for the call center and representing LSU at professional functions and recruiting events.
