About The Position

This is a summer position within the Recreation Division, focused on providing recreational activities for individuals with disabilities. Candidates must be available for the full summer camp season, including a mandatory week-long staff orientation starting June 15, 2026. Camp runs from June 22, 2026, to August 7, 2026. The role involves offering one-to-one assistance to participants who require support to independently engage in recreational activities and programs. General supervision for this role is provided by Therapeutic Recreation Services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Summer Camp programs.
  • Knowledge of implementing and adapting activities for maximum participation and independence.
  • Knowledge of various disabilities.
  • Ability to participate in a variety of creative and physical recreational activities on a daily basis.
  • Ability to interact with staff in a professional manner with integrity and good judgment.
  • Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with parents, community members, and staff.
  • Ability to transfer individuals in/out of wheelchairs.
  • Ability to work with individuals in the swimming pool.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Completion of 10th grade.
  • Three months experience working with individuals with special needs.
  • Subject to background investigation.
  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates initiative and enthusiasm in providing recreational opportunities to participants.
  • Interacts and communicates with staff in adapting activities that are age and ability appropriate for participants.
  • Provides one to one assistance and participates with assigned participants in scheduled activities, such as swimming, boating, field trips, structured classes and physical activities.
  • Provides a safe environment for participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Communicates with coordinator and staff regarding activities, participants, and personnel issues.
  • Feeds, clothes, and assists participants with toileting who are unable to do so independently.
  • Maintains records of attendance, writes daily progress notes, and completes other paperwork required by the Therapeutic Recreation Services.
  • Reports any issues, problems, or concerns when they occur to Therapeutic Recreation Services.
  • Performs any assigned duties that relate to successful operation of a therapeutic recreation program.
