About The Position

The One-to-One Paraprofessional at Boston Public Schools provides direct support to individual students with various disabilities, assisting them in daily instruction and activities. This role is crucial in fostering an inclusive educational environment tailored to the unique needs of each student, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
• Experience working with students diagnosed with mild to moderate disabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with parents, guardians, administrators, teachers, and students.
• Flexibility to accommodate the needs of students and parents/guardians.
• Trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).
• Current authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct service to individual students under the supervision of the teacher.
• Assist with toileting, diapering, lifting, and transfers, and maintain personal hygiene.
• Support the school nurse with tube feedings and other health-related tasks.
• Scribe and take notes for students as needed.
• Utilize language systems such as ASL, SEE 2, Picture Exchange System, and communication boards.
• Implement Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) techniques and manage student behavior through redirection and de-escalation.
• Collaborate with the classroom teacher to implement daily lesson plans and activities.
• Communicate openly with parents and staff regarding student progress and needs.
• Perform additional duties as requested by the Head of School or Principal, especially when the student is absent.
