About The Position

The Oncology Technician & Team Lead is a hands-on clinical leader responsible for supporting exceptional patient care while guiding and developing the Oncology nursing team. This role works closely with the Oncology veterinarians to improve efficiency, workflow, and outcomes, while acting as the primary liaison between nursing staff and hospital leadership. This is primarily a Veterinary Technician role, with Team Lead responsibilities serving as a secondary function. The ideal candidate is a skilled Veterinary Technician with strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and a passion for mentoring others within a collaborative specialty environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years working as a Veterinary Technician; oncology or specialty experience a plus
  • LVT certification preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to delegate, problem-solve, and prioritize effectively
  • Strong communication skills — verbal, written, and interpersonal
  • Ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to patient care
  • Fluent English (speaking & reading); additional languages a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Oncology nursing team, fostering collaboration and positive culture
  • Coach, train, and mentor technicians and assistants, providing real-time feedback and guidance
  • Partner with oncologists to optimize workflow, patient care, and client communication
  • Organize daily schedules, roles, and priorities to ensure smooth department operations
  • Maintain accurate medical records, controlled substance logs, and safe handling of treatments
  • Perform patient treatments, venipuncture, diagnostics, and administer medications via multiple routes
  • Assist with anesthesia monitoring, imaging, surgical, and diagnostic procedures as needed
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians, clients, staff, and leadership
  • Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, safety standards, and quality patient care
  • Participate as a working Veterinary Technician, including weekends or holidays as required
