Employing ANCC’s transition to practice conceptual model (including program leadership, organizational enculturation, development & design, practice-based learning, continuing professional development and quality outcomes), Stamford Hospital has developed a Summer Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program. The program is being sponsored by Frederick C. Flynn. Jr. in the memory of his wife Susan, who died of ovarian cancer in 2013. Fellowship Program Goal : Provide a comprehensive program to enable a student entering senior year of a baccalaureate nursing program to acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors to deliver safe, quality care that meets defined (organizational or professional society) standards of practice in a comprehensive cancer center setting under the preceptorship of an experienced registered nurse. The Fellowship will encompass organizational orientation, practice-based experience, and supplemental activities to promote continuing professional development in Oncology Nursing. Application Process and Requirements : Eligibility : This Fellowship is being offered to two (2) eligible senior nursing students who are either attending a Connecticut nursing school or are Connecticut residents attending an out-of-state nursing school . To be eligible for this fellowship, a candidate must have successfully completed the Fall, junior year semester of a BSN program, have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA and be in “good standing” status at their school. The Fellowship Program will begin June 11 th , 2026, for 8 weeks. The deadline for applications is Monday, March 2 nd , 2026 . Application Requirements : Applications will include a detailed essay demonstrating applicants’ strong desire to practice in the oncology setting, Planetree ideology and enculturation of Stamford Hospital’s core values (e.g., teamwork, compassion, integrity, respect and accountability). Supplemental requirements will include a resume, official transcript, and 2 letters of recommendation.
