Requirements

  • Current Licensure in the state of Florida.
  • BLS required
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing.
  • Level II: Minimum of 2 years in area of specialty in an inpatient or outpatient setting, and/or medical / surgical experience.
  • Applicants must also possess the skills to independently perform the job requirements, tasks and responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to interpret chemotherapy orders accurately ( calculates BSA and ANC correctly).
  • Performs double check of chemotherapy orders utilizing patient identifiers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the safe administration of chemotherapy and disposal of chemotherapy wastes and equipment as per ONS guidelines.
  • Completes nursing documents accurately and in a timely manner following Joint Commission Standards.
  • Provides patient education and documents appropriately using the approved documemtation forms.
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify signs and symptoms of oncologic emergencies and provide management appropriately and quickly
  • Assesses and reassesses patient complaint of pain and document findings.
  • Identify acute local and systemic reactions as a result of extravasation or anaphylaxis in association with specific chemotherapy drugs and appropriate interventions.
  • Attends annual mandatory inservices.
  • Maintain certification in Basic Life Support.
  • Achieves and maintains certification in speciality area.
  • Delegates patient care responsibilities to assigned care givers based upon patient and staff competencies.
  • Demonstrates a calm, professional manner during a crisis or emergency situation at all times within the patient care environment.
  • Follows approved protocol in receiving critical results and performing timely and accurate communication and follow-up.
  • Actively participates in the survivorship program of the center.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in charging services and reconciling charges.
  • Performs and documents an accurate systems and nursing assessment at time of visit as it relates to outpatient setting.
  • Performs and documents an accurate fall risk assessment at time of visit.
  • Assesses patient education needs as it relates to outpatient setting.
  • Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention.
  • Assesses psychosocial needs specific to patient's growth, age, and development.
  • Initiates an interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Presents patient cases at Interdisciplinary Patient Care Conferences (IPCC)
  • Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs at time of visit.
  • Verbalizes understanding of patient diagnosis and interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely and correctly initiates and documents nursing interventions in emergency situations.
  • Performs 24-hour chart check at the beginning of each shift.
  • Administers, observes, and documents intravenous therapy according to hospital policy.
  • Administers medications within 30 minutes of scheduled time.
  • Observes and documents effectiveness.
  • Recognizes and reports adverse reactions immediately.
  • Provides individualized instructions each shift to patient/significant other regarding the plan of care.
  • Demonstrates safe and correct use of unit specific equipment.
  • Adheres to standard precautions including hand hygiene guidelines at all times
  • Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique.
  • Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician.
  • Performs glucose monitoring accoding to policy.
  • Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aspetic technique.
  • Administers oxygen therapy per physician order
  • Performs new patient orientation / education and provides patient with understanding of department processes.
  • Documents / reports patient responses or outcomes resulting from : nursing interventions, treatments / procedures, interpersonal interactions, and patient / family education.
  • Evaluates and documents patient's progress towards established goals / objectives as it relates to outpatient setting.
  • Updates / revises individualized patient care standards based on patient / family responses , progress toward goals, and / or change in medical status.
  • Obtains 100% mandatory hospital and unit specific inservices annually, prior to evaluation date.
  • Plans, presents, and documents unit inservice and / or IPCC as required by level.
  • Documents competency in clinical skills annually.
  • Attends staff meetings as required.
  • Uses established lines of communication for resolution of problems and interpersonal conflict.
  • Ensures productivity daily by delegating assignments to immediate subordinates and evaluates completeion of their duties.
  • Participates in PI program by identifying PI indicators of major aspects of care at the unit level.
  • Collects PI data as assigned.
