About The Position

The Oncology Nurse evaluates, plans, implements, and documents nursing care for the oncology patient. The RN provides a range of patient care, including IV lines, responsible for drawing blood via peripheral site, port-a-caths, and PICC's, administration of chemotherapy, mixing and preparing chemotherapy drugs under supervision and training of the pharmacist, blood components, O2 set ups, monitoring vital signs and supportive care. The RN needs to be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within their field. Relies on experience and judgment to accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks, administers quality control, and updates patient charts and charges. Notifies physician of change in patient conditions. RN will also perform the following duties as needed: phone nurse triage of patient symptoms, refill requests, rooming of patients to see oncology provider, and will be expected to stay until 5:00pm on 1 to 2 shifts per week. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed and current registration as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Clinical experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Basic Oncology Nursing and Cancer Chemotherapy Course within six months of hire.
  • Good working knowledge of the nursing process and strong nursing practice skills including physical assessment skills.
  • Great deal of walking, lifting, stooping, bending and pushing.
