About The Position

VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is working toward a future without cancer – one revolutionary idea, one promising therapy and one life saved at a time. Through innovative research, patient care, education and community engagement, VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is discovering, developing, delivering and teaching effective means to prevent, detect, treat and cure cancer and to making these advancements equally available to all. Founded in 1974, Massey was among the earliest cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). It is the only cancer center in the Richmond metropolitan region and one of only two NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the state, placing it among the top 4 percent of cancer centers in the country. Serves as an advocate, interpreter, educator and counselor for a group of patients specifically in Urology. Manages the care of assigned patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality and comprehensive healthcare and ancillary services. Serves as the single point of contact to assigned patients and caregivers. Remains a support system to patients and caregivers throughout the patient’s treatment. Uses clinical/nursing knowledge and skills in the performance of job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
  • AHA BLS Certification
  • Specialty Nursing Certification in either Nurse Navigation or area of specialty within one year of hire in position
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience in nursing, patient education; case management and/or navigation
  • Previous experience in specialty area
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing

Nice To Haves

  • Previous nurse navigation or leadership experience
  • Experience within an academic, teaching hospital
  • Master’ Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an advocate, interpreter, educator and counselor for a group of patients specifically in Urology.
  • Manages the care of assigned patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality and comprehensive healthcare and ancillary services.
  • Serves as the single point of contact to assigned patients and caregivers.
  • Remains a support system to patients and caregivers throughout the patient’s treatment.
  • Uses clinical/nursing knowledge and skills in the performance of job responsibilities.
  • Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider medical/treatment orders.
  • Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards.
  • All practice is guided by and follows the VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice guidelines.
  • Organizes and plans work with input from the patient/family with specific outcomes identified.
  • Demonstrates use of sound clinical judgment based on nursing knowledge/experience.
