JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm Summary of the Job: The Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) is a professionally registered nurse with oncology-specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers; uses the nursing process throughout all phases of the cancer continuum. The Oncology Nurse Navigator works in a collaborative fashion with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure every patient receives comprehensive, timely and quality healthcare services.

Requirements

  • Current LA RN licensure required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of oncology nursing experience.
  • ONN-CG or OCN strongly encouraged within 18 months.
  • Must maintain 12 Oncology specific CEUs per year.
  • Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
  • Knowledge base of pathophysiology of cancer, treatment modalities, disease progression and organ systems management.
  • Working knowledge of insurance coverage and procedures as well as community resources.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated Customer Service Skills.
  • Typing and computer skills required.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication and critical thinking skills are needed as well as the ability to work in teams, multi-task and prioritize patient needs.
  • Must be able to work autonomously and have a basic working knowledge of insurance coverage and procedures.
  • Must possess good physical health.
  • Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.
  • Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
  • Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) – handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, crouching, reaching, stooping Occasionally (1%-33%) – climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.)
