About The Position

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Oncology Nurse Navigator in the GYN Oncology Clinic at our Orland Park location. In collaboration with faculty mentors and mid-level providers in a care team setting, coordinates the care of patients with gynecologic malignancies throughout their entire longitudinal experience. Acts as a clinical liaison for patients across medical services and clinical departments. This involves patient education, triage and management of symptoms as well as support of their emotional and spiritual needs. Essential Job Functions: Initiates and manages ongoing chemotherapy and other systemic therapy plans within the electronic medical record and chemotherapy management system. Supports our robust clinical research enterprise by enrolling patients on therapeutic clinical trials Acts as liaison for patients, families, and their multidisciplinary clinical team. Assesses clinical, emotional, spiritual, psychosocial, financial, and other patient needs. Provides education for patients and families on their disease, current treatments, and management of side effects of their treatments. Collaborate with other Oncology nurses to develop patient educations materials, clinical pathways, and quality studies Participate in the Gyn Onc multidisciplinary tumor conference and data safety and monitoring committee meetings. Develops and/or coordinates development of patient education materials, clinical pathways, and quality studies. Coordinates and/or participates in multidisciplinary consultations and/or tumor conference.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a current Illinois license.
  • Graduate of a National League for Nursing accredited School of Nursing with BSN.
  • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months.
  • ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.
  • Must have general computer skills and be adaptable to changing working situations and work assignments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, with specific ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, and physicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology Certified Nurse preferred.
  • Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy Provider preferred.
  • Minimum of 1+ years hematology/oncology clinical nursing experience with demonstrated clinical competence in patient care, teaching and management of patients with a cancer diagnosis, and knowledge about clinical aspects of oncology including protocol therapy and data management.
