About The Position

Under the direction of the Corporate Director of Cancer Center, the Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) is responsible for facilitating the patient experience for patients as well as family members from cancer diagnosis to survivorship. The ONN is a patient advocate, care coordinator, educator, and offers psychosocial support and connection to community resources. The ONN functions on the multidisciplinary team and builds relationships with the care team to ensure patients receive timely access to quality care and comprehensive services. The ONN serves as a clinical resource with expertise in hematology/oncology care management. Acts as ambassador and representative of the Oncology Program in community events and markets/promotes service line to increase business volume for the Hospital.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
  • 3 years nursing experience in an oncology setting, including medical or surgical oncology practice, infusion center, radiation oncology, or inpatient oncology unit.
  • Proven working relationship with physicians.
  • Patient education experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to manage a full suite of tasks and manage across numerous priorities and to service line to meet established deadlines.
  • Employs empathy, patience, understanding, courtesy and kindness to all patients, their families, physicians and other hospital staff.
  • Able to focus on long-term goals while managing day-to-day operations.
  • Exercises initiative, creativity and courage to act in the best interest of the patient.
  • Confidence to interact with stakeholders at all levels, including patients/ family, co-workers, providers, physicians and administration.
  • California RN License.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS within 90 days of hire.
  • Ongoing education of 12 cancer related continuing nursing education hours annually.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in oncology nurse navigation preferred.
  • ONS certification preferred.
  • Spanish speaking a plus.
