OHC – Specialists in Cancer and Blood disorders, is seeking a medical assistant to join our team at our Mercy West location. As the only independent adult cancer program in the region, we offer Medical, Radiation, Blood and Marrow Transplant, Gynecologic, and Breast Surgical Oncology services. OHC supports a robust cancer research and clinical trials program, neuro-oncology, cancer genetics specialists and supportive care program. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
  • This is an entry level position requiring 0-3 years’ experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
  • Performs phlebotomy and sample collection procedures as needed and as ordered.
  • Utilizes a laboratory information system (LIS) for QC and patient result management.
  • Maintains proper documentation for waived testing quality control, equipment records and maintenance checklists.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures that all supplies are viable before using in patient testing.
  • Processes orders for lab testing.
  • Send specimens to appropriate reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.
  • Operates designated laboratory equipment and performs specimen analysis under regulatory agency guidelines for personnel. Comply with regulatory agency standards. Responsible for performing CLIA Waived or Moderately complexity testing.
  • Maintains equipment and work area as directed. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated. Identify troubleshooting procedures and calls technical services as needed.
  • Records proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrator, and reagents.
  • Complies with safety and quality assurance standards. Properly disposes of hazardous materials. Adheres to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.
  • Maintains confidentially of all information related to patients and medical staff.
