About The Position

The Oncology/Infusion Pharmacist plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of pharmacy and drug distribution services in patient care areas. This position is responsible for medication distribution, IV admixtures, and the safety and efficacy of prescribed drug therapy, adhering to state and federal regulations. The pharmacist will provide drug information to medical staff and patients, and take on additional responsibilities within their specialty area.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy with current MA registration in Pharmacy.
  • Must be eligible for a Massachusetts pharmacist license and advanced certification within 2 years of hire.
  • Requires a working knowledge of health-system pharmacy, including drug therapeutics and sterile compounding.
  • Experience: PGY 1 + 1-3 years or PGY 1 + PGY 2 or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Clinically reviews and assesses all medication orders for safety and appropriateness.
  • Performs assigned work efficiently during shifts.
  • Practices in accordance with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Reviews and verifies medication orders based on patient-specific parameters.
  • Documents and communicates pertinent information with healthcare teams.
  • Provides drug information to healthcare professionals.
  • Checks and verifies sterile and non-sterile medications.
  • Supervises students, technicians, and residents in the pharmacy.
  • Promotes a culture of patient safety by reporting medication-related events.
  • Completes daily pharmacy surveillance and documentation.
  • Collaborates with pharmacy staff to uphold a culture of respect and teamwork.
  • Precepts pharmacy students and residents, serving as a mentor.
  • Participates in continuous performance improvement activities.
  • Supports training, education, and quality initiatives in the department.
  • Develops and updates clinical guidelines and educational initiatives.
  • Serves on interdisciplinary committees to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Supports research activities and medication use evaluations.
  • Incorporates hospital guiding principles into daily activities.
  • Complies with all hospital policies and behavioral expectations.
  • Maintains effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Demonstrates commitment to customer service standards.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and mandatory education.
  • Performs other duties as needed to meet departmental needs.
