About The Position

The Oncology Data Specialist I (Part-Time) at Cooper University Health Care is responsible for performing essential operations within the Oncology Data Services Department. This role is crucial for maintaining compliance with various accreditation standards and state regulations related to oncology data reporting. The specialist will engage in tasks such as abstracting, casefinding, follow-up, and supporting tumor board coordination, contributing to the overall quality of oncology data management.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience working in a hospital cancer registry, including abstracting, casefinding, and follow-up preferred.
  • Associate's degree with clinical practicum in a CoC accredited hospital Cancer Registry Management or other healthcare-related field.
  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential or ODS-ready status.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Metriq registry software and Epic medical record systems.
  • Familiarity with Commission on Cancer and other accreditation program compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform abstracting, casefinding, and follow-up tasks as part of the Data Oncology Services Department.
  • Utilize standard setting resources in the oncology field, including AJCC, NCI-SEER, and ACoS-Commission on Cancer.
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities to achieve and maintain the Oncology Data Specialist credential.
  • Proficiently use Cooper and department-specific software and applications within six months of hire.
  • Track progress of casefinding and abstracting using Excel and manage database issues appropriately.
  • Assist with accreditation compliance by verifying data fields and supporting the Cancer Registry Assistant during Multidisciplinary Cancer Case Conferences.
  • Receive training and mentoring from the manager and team members, and assist with department policy maintenance.
  • Participate in state audits and other related activities as assigned.
