About The Position

The Oncology Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting patients and providers throughout a patient visit. This position works collaboratively with other health care members and will assist the medical team as needed to provide quality and accessible health care services to patients under the supervision of the Medical Director. This work location for this position may change based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an oncology center
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Type at least 35 wpm
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication/interpersonal skills, both over the telephone and directly
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Current documentation of Basic Life Support is required
  • Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.

Nice To Haves

  • Medial assistant or clinical Aide certificate desired
  • Experience with EPIC is a plus
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin), Vietnamese, Spanish and other languages may be required depending on location.
  • Fluency in other languages is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Greets, checks-in, and checks-out patients including checking insurance eligibility, obtaining prior authorization, scheduling appointments for patient, and collecting payments
  • Calls patients and reminds them of upcoming appointments
  • Performs billing procedures including cashier, running receipts, and charge summaries
  • Verify/updates patient insurance and billing discrepancies
  • Conducts periodic updates of demographic and financial data
  • Answers phone calls and responds to requests appropriately
  • Takes and records patient vital signs in EHR
  • Assists providers in ensuring patient safety and understanding
  • Communicate with patients regarding instructions and works with medical team as needed
  • Prepares exam rooms before and after each patient in accordance with NEMS policy and OSHA guidelines.
  • Assists in discharging the patient at the completion of the office visit and answers any final logistical questions the patient may have
  • Receives and sorts daily mail
  • Prepares and send out mailings
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor
