The role of the Pharmacy is to promote safe and effective medication therapy for all patients and to provide oversight and leadership of the medication use system. Requirements

  • Active Pharmacist Licensure in both Kansas and Missouri (must be in good standing).
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or equivalent from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Strong knowledge of chemotherapy protocols, oncology supportive care, and antineoplastic agents.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between assigned sites.
  • Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Residency with oncology experience.
  • Sterile compounding experience in accordance with UPS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services for oncology patients, including medication therapy management and chemotherapy regimen review.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, nurses, APPs, and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication regimens based on clinical protocols and patient-specific factors.
  • Verify chemotherapy orders for appropriateness, dosing, and potential drug interactions.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation and dispensing of oncology medications, including IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy agents, following USP 787/800 and institutional guidelines.
  • Travel to and provide pharmacy coverage at four cancer centers in the Kansas City metro as needed.
  • Interpret orders and transcribe into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals.
  • Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies and appropriateness of drug and dose.
  • Suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic medication alternatives to medical staff.
  • Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and promote rational drug therapy selection.
  • Assist with clinical services such as drug consults, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulant monitoring, pain management, IV to PO, renal dosing and other programs as defined by Pharmacy Leadership.
  • Complete notification reports regarding medication errors and adverse drug reactions.
  • Provide oversight of staff schedules.
