About The Position

The Simulation Technician at Western Governors University plays a crucial role in facilitating high-fidelity human patient simulated learning for nursing students at all levels. This on-site position in Kansas City, MO, requires the technician to work closely with the simulation learning lab instructor to ensure that the simulation lab operates smoothly and effectively. The technician is responsible for managing lab supplies, performing pre-simulation activities, assisting with simulation scenarios, and conducting post-simulation activities. The role demands minimal direction, and the technician will report directly to the Clinical Learning Lab Coordinator. In this position, the technician serves as a professional role model for students, demonstrating appropriate dress, communication, and problem-solving skills. They are expected to provide constructive feedback to students in a respectful manner, facilitating their socialization into the nursing profession. The technician will support the daily operations of the clinical learning lab, orienting both students and faculty to the simulation lab and providing necessary technical support. The essential functions include programming patient scenarios, setting up control rooms for simulation activities, preparing scenario props, and creating documentation for scenarios. During simulation activities, the technician will pre-brief participants, operate simulation consoles, and record simulation activities in approved formats. Post-simulation, they will operate debriefing equipment, provide feedback for improving the simulation experience, and ensure the lab is returned to its pre-scenario condition. The technician may also be involved in salvaging reusable supplies and repackaging them for future use. Overall, this position requires a commitment to utilizing simulation methodology in learning and its transformative potential in nursing education, along with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
