About The Position

The On-Site Junior Coordinator provides essential academic and student support services to adults in custody participating in Kentucky State University's prison education program. This position plays a key role in maintaining a consistent on-site presence, providing academic advising, assisting faculty, and coordinating logistics for incarcerated students. The role involves maintaining scheduled on-site office hours at the correctional facility and ensuring consistent communication and coordination between students, faculty, and institutional staff.

  • Bachelor’s degree required (BA/BS)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students and institutional stakeholders
  • Proficiency in using relevant educational technology and administrative software
  • Travel between campus and correctional facilities is part of the role. Reliable transportation is essential.
  • Adhering to security procedures, screenings, and facility protocols when entering or leaving correctional facilities.
  • Must maintain scheduled office hours (approximately two -three days weekly) on-site at the correctional facility.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular on-site office hours (approximately three days per week) at the correctional facility.
  • Provide in-person academic and student support services.
  • Act as a liaison between incarcerated students and university personnel, including faculty and staff.
  • Ensure timely communication and delivery of academic materials and resources.
  • Advise students on course selection, degree planning, and general academic concerns.
  • Assist students in navigating admissions, financial aid, and reentry planning.
  • Coordinate with Division Chairs to align correctional course offerings each semester.
  • Track academic progress and maintain appropriate documentation for incarcerated students.
  • Assist in preparing reports, accreditation documentation, MOUs, and support files for off-site programs.
  • Support efforts to meet federal and state reporting requirements related to financial aid and program compliance.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with correctional administrators, reentry organizations, and other partners.
  • Coordinate efforts with community, industry, and educational institutions to support student outcomes.
  • Manage the Correctional Education Program’s administrative components, including recruiting, admissions, enrollment, and reentry coordination.
  • Assist in developing promotional and educational materials for the program.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Coordinator for Work-Based Learning.
  • Participate in departmental and university committees, contributing to the institution's effective functioning.
  • Engage in outreach activities and collaborations with industry partners to foster connections between academia and the manufacturing sector.
  • Contribute to students' academic and professional development through advising and mentoring.
  • Participate in community and public service initiatives that align with the mission of the university.
  • Conduct research on best practices for providing efficient support to adults in custody
  • Research effectiveness of educational programs provided for incarcerated adults and effective ways to empower them and keep them immersed in the program and maximizing time to complete work in a timely manner.
  • Stay current with advancements in the field of prison education and higher education
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance capabilities of providing support to students.
