About The Position

The On-Shore Program Support (OSPS), serves as the primary on-shore support professional for the Junior Sailing Program. This role ensures a safe, organized, welcoming, and well-managed shore environment while providing attentive care to students who are injured, ill, or temporarily removed from on-water activities. The OSPS "Shore Parent" supports administrative logistics, parent communication, check-in/check-out procedures, and maintains a clean, professional facility consistent with US Sailing safety and SafeSport standards. This position works closely with the Program Director and Senior Instructors.

Requirements

  • Current First Aid & CPR/AED Certification (Required)
  • SafeSport Training (Required)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience working with youth
  • Ability to maintain calm, nurturing demeanor in high-activity environments
  • Demonstrated experience working with young children (ages 5 - 17) in educational, camp, or childcare settings.
  • Proven ability to entertain and engage kids creatively while maintaining structure and safety.
  • Enthusiastic, patient, nurturing demeanor with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain with PCSA financial support).
  • Clean background check (required for all staff).
  • Physical ability to lift 30-40 lbs and work indoors and outdoors in all weather.
  • Authorization to work in the United States (we unfortunately cannot provide sponsorship).

Nice To Haves

  • Customer service or hospitality experience preferred
  • Formal background in early childhood education or related field.
  • Experience with play-based or experiential learning for young kids.
  • Additional water safety certifications (e.g., lifeguard, basic keelboat knowledge).
  • Familiarity with mountain lake conditions (e.g., wind shifts).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students who: Are injured Are not feeling well Are temporarily restricted from sailing Are assigned behavioral “shore time”
  • Provide basic first aid within certification scope
  • Maintain incident documentation in coordination with Program Director
  • Contact parents/guardians when necessary
  • Ensure students remain supervised at all times
  • Follow all mandatory reporting and SafeSport protocols
  • Serve as a friendly, professional point of contact during program hours
  • Assist with parent questions at drop-off and pick-up
  • Support Monday morning parent orientation presentations
  • Communicate clearly regarding: Minor injuries Illness concerns Behavioral notifications (as directed by leadership)
  • Help reinforce program policies in a calm, supportive manner
  • Manage daily check-in and check-out procedures
  • Track attendance
  • Assist with T-shirt distribution and merchandise
  • Help organize registration materials and waivers
  • Maintain updated emergency contact access
  • Support filing and record keeping as assigned
  • Maintain clean, organized classroom and shore areas
  • Ensure first aid supplies are stocked and accessible
  • Monitor hydration stations and shade areas
  • Assist with organization of life jackets and shore equipment
  • Help maintain professional presentation of program facilities
  • Assist instructors during transition times (launch, lunch, dock rotations)
  • Help monitor student flow between dock and classroom
  • Support special events and regattas
  • Participate in staff meetings and program trainings
