About The Position

Join Meals on Wheels People, a community-founded organization with a 50-year legacy. We've been a lifeline for thousands of older adults in the Portland Metro Area, providing independence through weekly meal delivery and social connections. Our vibrant culture thrives on integrity, commitment, respect, inclusion, creativity, and teamwork. With over 20 centers spanning Multnomah, Washington, and Clark counties, our dedicated staff and volunteers ensure no adult over 60 goes hungry or experiences social isolation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Certification or ability to obtain within two weeks from date of hire.
  • Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain one within 18 months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and transportation required.
  • CPR certified or ability to obtain within 18 months from date of hire.
  • Proven experience to effectively manage, engage and retain volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational, record keeping, time management and multi-tasking skills including the ability to set priorities and be flexible to last-minute changes.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with diverse populations including minority, low income and persons with disabilities.
  • Strong ability to problem solve and implement solutions.
  • Proficient in computer applications and MS Office suite.
  • Ability to quickly learn new computer programs; experience with client data management systems a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Asian or African languages strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the safe and efficient preparation of senior dining services following all Meals on Wheels People Food Service Manual procedures and Health Department regulations.
  • Provide management and oversight of meal preparation, including scratch cooking, ethnic meal preparation, and service for the Meals on Wheels program and senior dining.
  • Manage and maintain adequate levels of food and non-food items, ensuring product is safe, secure and properly stored.
  • Establish a positive, welcoming atmosphere for all participants and volunteers.
  • Assist Site Manager as necessary with responsive hunger relief services.
  • Supplemental meals for clients with food insecurity.
  • Meal services for partnerships and contracts.
  • Ethnic meals.
  • Programming in response to isolation.
  • Assist in training and supervision of kitchen and dining room volunteers.
  • Maintain high kitchen standards in sanitation and safety in accordance with all regulations.
  • Maintain and update client and volunteer information in data management systems.
  • Complete all required administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in in-service training and attend required meetings.
  • Have knowledge of Meals on Wheels People annual agency wide events and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support the mission, goals and objectives of Meals on Wheels People, Inc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
