About The Position

The On-Call Route Van Driver at Melwood provides essential transportation support to individuals with disabilities, ensuring safe and timely curb-to-curb transport to and from various Melwood campuses. This role is critical in facilitating access to community programs and services for individuals funded by DDA. The position operates under the guidance of the Transportation Coordinators and requires a commitment to positive interactions and support for the individuals served.

Requirements

• High School Diploma and three years of experience in the transportation field.
• Minimum of two years' experience driving a passenger vehicle.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to be a team player.
• Ability to respond to crises in a calm and productive manner.
• Demonstrated ability to provide respectful support to individuals served.
• Dependable and punctual with a valid driver's license and good driving record.
• At least 21 years of age and able to pass and maintain DOT physical.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in direct support professional roles.
• Certifications in DDA related training, NAPPI, and BPS.

Responsibilities

• Operates a passenger van safely and efficiently, following scheduled routes and responding to unscheduled requests.
• Monitors traffic and weather conditions, notifying dispatch of potential issues.
• Reports accidents or safety situations to transportation administration.
• Inspects the vehicle at the beginning of each shift for operational safety features.
• Ensures the vehicle is clean and fueled, maintaining an orderly interior.
• Monitors vehicle condition and records any malfunctions or damage.
• Completes all required transportation forms accurately.
• Communicates transportation issues to administrative staff and team members.
• Demonstrates positive behavioral management techniques and communicates effectively with individuals.
• Knowledgeable of each individual's specific needs assigned to the route.
• Facilitates self-esteem through positive interactions and trust-building with individuals.
• Participates in required training, team meetings, and supervision meetings.
• Performs other assigned duties as necessary.
