About The Position

The On-call RN Substitute Nurses position is a vital role within the health services department, providing essential nursing care to students across the district. The position is available district-wide and is ongoing, with a start date of September 2, 2025. The RN Substitute Nurses will be responsible for assessing, planning, intervening, and evaluating students with both acute and chronic health conditions, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act and current district procedures. This role includes providing direct professional nursing services, mental health support, and maintaining accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) by the MN Board of Nursing.
• Public Health Nurse (PHN) certification and/or MN License School Nurse (LSN) licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of students with acute and chronic health conditions under the guidelines of the MN Nurse Practice Act and current district procedures.
• Provide direct professional nursing services such as first aid, illness and emergency care, medication administration, g-tube feedings, catheterizations, etc.
• Provide mental health support including intervention and/or referral to appropriate school staff or community agencies.
• Participate in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations and medical conditions.
• Delegate appropriate health cares and provide ongoing supervision to health paraprofessionals per nursing judgment, the MN Nurse Practice Act and current district procedures.
• Participate in Special Education evaluations as needed (i.e. hearing and vision screening, health assessments, etc.).
• Follow state and county guidelines for reporting contagious health conditions.
• Other duties as assigned.
