About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an On-Call Lead Environmental Engineer for our White Springs, FL location. The following locations will also be considered: Jacksonville, FL; Gainesville, FL or Tampa, FL. The senior environmental engineer will provide technical support and direction for grassing establishment and maintenance for mine closure projects, manage the gopher tortoise relocation program including permitting and maintenance efforts, and support the wildlife management program. This role requires hands-on expertise in natural resource management, environmental permitting, compliance, and listed species coordination. Your Impact Technical support for grassing establishment and maintenance: Lead and direct grassing projects ensuring successful establishment and ongoing maintenance. Apply expertise in land reclamation, erosion control, and soil analysis to optimize vegetation cover and meet regulatory success criteria. Gopher Tortoise relocation program management: Oversee all aspects of the gopher tortoise relocation program, including field surveys, permitting, long-term site maintenance and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations Wildlife management program support: Provide technical and operational support for wildlife management initiatives, including threatened and endangered species surveys, habitat restoration, and biodiversity enhancement. Perform professional environmental engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources and proposed and existing site conditions to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits. Conduct environmental site assessments. Interact with subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Develop action plans for mid to larger-scale pollution, corrosion, hazardous waste, and environmental control project and programs. Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in environmental engineering, natural resource management, and compliance monitoring.
  • Demonstrated success in environmental management, land reclamation projects for mining and industrial operations.
  • Experience with gopher tortoise surveys, relocation, and long-term recipient site management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of NPDES stormwater and wastewater programs.
  • Expertise in constructed wetlands, pollinator habitat restoration, and lake restoration.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement compliance strategies for complex environmental projects.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Proficient with engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work-related issues.
  • Proficiency with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
