About The Position

ICF seeks an On-call Environmental Data Validation Chemist to join our Region 3 team of environmental professionals to support an EPA contract, the Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT), across the country. This position will be on-call and remote (within the continental United States) and will be supporting EPA Region 3 of the ESAT program. As an On-call Environmental Data Validation Chemist, you will be responsible for evaluating and validating environmental laboratory analytical data for compliance with method and program/project QA/QC requirements. Reviews of laboratory-reported data will be conducted following EPA’s National Functional Guidelines or other procedures, as directed. Duties will include preparing written reports and editing electronic data in the cloud or through electronic file transfer to incorporate validation qualifiers, as well as reviewing the work of others doing similar work (i.e., technical or peer review). The successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team of chemists and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, or equivalent years (4 years) of chemistry lab experience
  • 4+ years of experience in organic and/or inorganic analysis using CLP, SW-846 and other EPA methods.
  • Ability to work remotely (i.e., experience using collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, maintaining joint calendars, schedules, or files).
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat to create and edit documents/files.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States of America, per federal contract requirements.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO PASS an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property, per contract requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in non-routine analyses such as PFAS by EPA methods, explosives, or radionuclides is desirable.
  • Laboratory experience with EPA methods and laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, LCMS, GC, GC/MS, GC/HRMS, ICP/AES, ICP/MS, IC, CVAA, etc. for the analysis of organic and inorganic constituents and contaminants is preferred.
  • Experience in validating data according to the EPA National Functional Guidelines and use of the SMO Portal EXES website and software is preferred.
  • Experience writing, reviewing, or implementing quality assurance project plans (QAPPs), sampling and analysis plans (SAPs), and related documents in accordance with EPA QA/R-5: EPA Requirements for Quality Assurance Project Plans; EPA QA/G-9: Guidance for the Data Quality Assessment: Practical Methods for Data Analysis; EPA QA/G-4HW: Guidance for the Data Quality Objectives Process for Hazardous Waste Sites; and other EPA quality assurance guidance is desirable.
  • Experience reviewing/validating data from other methods/programs is desirable.
