About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for supporting the maintenance of high-quality Head Start classrooms and overall facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance of facilities and other services with Head Start Performance Standards and other state and federal regulations and providing custodial services to the program. Responsibilities also include custodial maintenance of all facilities to which s/he is assigned.

Requirements

• Physical exam and background checks are required for this position
• Must have a valid driver's license and/or reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Performs basic cleaning tasks, effectively utilizing resources to accomplish tasks
• Routinely pick up and dispose of trash within the center and on the grounds
• Clean classrooms and other areas of the Head Start Center, including all ledges, tables, and furniture
• Clean glass doors & windows as needed
• Keep restrooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition
• Sweep, scrub, and wax floors, clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls
• Clean mirrors, sinks, and water fountains
• Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap
• Dust and clean window sills, banisters, and accessible cabinets
• Lock and unlock building doors & playground gates
• Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies
• Keep stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work
• Inform the supervisor when materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement
• Maintain the grounds (including the playground) around the center by picking up and disposing of all litter, glass, etc.
