Your Opportunity This on-call position will be based in either Winnemucca, Nevada, Elko, Nevada, or Salt Lake City and assist with field work throughout Nevada and surrounding states. This role will include assisting with environmental studies for a variety of resource, infrastructure, and mining projects. The work to be completed will depend on projects contracted for the 2026 field season. This position will augment the Mountain Region’s team of biologists as needed during the 2026 field season.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of wildlife and/or plant identification is required.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods of time and potentially camping in remote locations.
  • Must be able to hike for extended periods of time.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail.
  • Experienced working well in a team atmosphere and independently, as required.
  • Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work.
  • Must be conscientious, organized, and disciplined.
  • Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team.
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate in natural resources, rangeland ecology, wildlife biologist, or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This is an entry level position.
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather such as extreme heat, cold, precipitation, and dry conditions.
  • Camping may be required.
  • Overnight travel should be expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of field sampling techniques is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERSI Field Maps is preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience navigating via Global Positioning System devices, topographic maps, aerial photographs, etc. is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff biologists with surveys for wildlife, including but not limited to surveys for migratory bird nests, eagle/raptor nest surveys and monitoring, greater sage-grouse leks counts, pygmy rabbit habitat evaluations, and western burrowing owl surveys.
  • Conduct vegetation surveys, including but not limited to the identification and inventory of riparian plants, noxious and invasive weed species, and general vegetation community mapping.
  • Perform surface water and groundwater sampling for flow and water quality.
  • Collecting water and soil samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Actively participate in maintaining Stantec's safety culture.
  • Ability and comfort to ork in remote locations.
  • This role is primarily a traveling position with frequent overnight travel.
  • Proximity to projects contracted for 2026 will largely dictate travel requirements.
