About The Position

Freedom Generating Station (FGS) is a $1 billion, 1,050 MW, 2x1x1 GE 7HA.02 combined cycle electric power generating Facility in Luzerne County, PA. We are currently recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Technician to join our Team. The candidate for this position will be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of FGS while assigned to a Rotating Shift Team in the Operations Department. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Facility equipment and systems. This equipment includes combustion turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment such as heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), air-cooled condensers, air compressors, motors, pumps, valves, fire suppression systems, and all other balance of plant equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Capable of writing operating procedures, work requests, and written records.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's.
  • Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment.
  • Proficient at repairing, replacing, dismantling and inspecting defective plant equipment.
  • Capable of operating welding and cutting equipment.
  • Proficient at Water Chemistry.
  • Capable of setting up and operating a drill press, pipe threading machine, grinder and other various tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (02) to Four (04) years related power plant or industry experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of advanced technology combustion turbines, steam turbines, single shaft arrangements and commissioning experience.
  • Power Plant Control Room Operator experience.
  • Experience with General Electric (GE) MARK VIe DCS (Control System).

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Operations Manager and works a rotating shift schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strict adherence to all safety, environmental, NERC compliance, and Facility rules and regulations.
  • Performs Inspection of Watch (IOW) and surveillance rounds on each system within the plant.
  • Operates and maintains the Combined Cycle electric power generating Facility equipment with minimal guidance.
  • Inspects, adjusts, and controls all power production, auxiliary and Facility equipment.
  • Performs water chemistry analysis on HRSG, Auxiliary Boiler and Water Treatment.
  • Operates demineralized water system in accordance with OEM specifications.
  • Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, filters, valves, and gauges.
  • Identifies and resolves Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) problems.
  • Performs general housekeeping and cleaning responsibilities.
  • Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively and accurately using both oral and written methods.
  • Responsible for ordering chemicals through established vendors.
  • Assists in managing the plant's inventory and performing audits as needed.
  • Performs Lock Out-Tag Out of Plant Systems.
  • Responsible for opening and closing circuit breakers as required.
  • Assists with development of Operations and Maintenance procedures.
  • Assists with performing Root Cause Analysis of failures.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as forklifts.
  • Maintains journals, logbooks, shift turnovers, and various other reports.
