About The Position

As a Long-Term Care Ombudsman, you will serve as a resident advocate, working directly with individuals in long-term care facilities to improve their quality of life and the care they receive. This role involves protecting residents' rights, ensuring their voices are heard, and helping to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect. This is a remote position, not reporting to the Idaho Falls main office, with a service area covering Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida, and Power counties, where services will be provided locally.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent, along with at least one year's employment experience in social work, nursing, public health, geriatrics, administration, or a related field working with the elderly.
  • Demonstrated experience in long-term services and support, public policy advocacy, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of older persons and individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to take the initiative, lead community education efforts, and skillfully negotiate to achieve positive outcomes.
  • An understanding of long-term care issues and resources.
  • Complete Idaho's Ombudsman Certification Course prior to participating in Ombudsman activities.
  • Must be able to pass an Intellicorp SSN Verification and Criminal History Search, and Motor Vehicle Records Check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and objectively investigate complaints concerning residents in long-term care facilities, taking proactive steps to resolve issues and improve their living conditions.
  • Routinely visit all long-term care facilities within our service area, establishing meaningful connections with residents and staff to advocate for enhanced care.
  • Actively contribute to community education efforts, providing valuable insights into resident rights, current regulations, and long-term care issues, and conduct staff training to promote improved quality of care.
  • Work with the local ombudsman in overseeing and implementing the Volunteer Ombudsman program, engaging passionate volunteers who share our vision.
  • Under the guidance of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, identify areas for improvement in public policy, regulations, and laws to enhance the lives of long-term care residents.
