About The Position

Ombudsman Assistant - Advocate for Long-Term Care Residents Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of elderly residents in assisted living and long-term care facilities? As a part-time Ombudsman Assistant , you will be a resident advocate, working directly with residents in long-term care facilities to improve their quality of life and the care they receive. Your role will be crucial in safeguarding their civil and human rights, ensuring they have a voice and are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. What You'll Be Doing: Investigating Complaints: Receive and objectively investigate complaints concerning residents in long-term care facilities, taking proactive steps to resolve issues and improve their living conditions. Facility Visits: You'll routinely visit all long-term care facilities within our service area, establishing meaningful connections with residents and staff to advocate for enhanced care. Community Education: Actively contribute to community education efforts, providing valuable insights into resident rights, current regulations, and long-term care issues. You'll also conduct staff training to promote improved quality of care. Volunteer Program: You will have the opportunity to work with the local ombudsman in overseeing and implementing the Volunteer Ombudsman program, engaging passionate volunteers who share our vision. Policy Advocacy: Under the guidance of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, you will identify areas for improvement in public policy, regulations, and laws to enhance the lives of long-term care residents. Qualifications We Seek: Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree or equivalent, along with at least one year's employment experience in social work, nursing, public health, geriatrics, administration, or a related field working with the elderly. Passion for Advocacy: Demonstrated experience in long-term services and support, public policy advocacy, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of older persons and individuals with disabilities. Leadership and Problem-Solving Skills: We need someone who can take the initiative, lead community education efforts, and skillfully negotiate to achieve positive outcomes. Knowledge: An understanding of long-term care issues and resources will be essential for this role.
