About The Position

Phillips Academy, a prestigious co-educational boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts, is seeking a professional Ombuds to serve as a confidential, independent, informal, and impartial resource for faculty, staff, and administrators. This role is crucial in fostering a trusted and safe bridge to leadership and management, while also identifying trends and concerns that impact community members and the Academy's mission and goals. The Ombuds will report directly to the Head of School and will be expected to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in alignment with best practices of the profession. The Ombuds will engage in various activities including consultation, conflict analysis, conflict coaching, restorative practices, mediation, and facilitation. This position requires the Ombuds to listen to and assist employees in framing issues as they navigate conflicts, particularly in sensitive situations or difficult conversations. Collaboration with Human Resources and General Counsel is essential to understand policies and processes, research issues, generate options, and potentially facilitate or mediate conversations with the voluntary agreement of participants. The successful candidate will also be expected to practice and develop cultural competence in their duties. This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position on a 12-month schedule, requiring approximately 8-10 hours of work per week. The Ombuds will work in a hybrid model, both on campus and remotely, and will not be eligible for campus housing or other employee benefits such as tuition remission, health insurance, or 403(b) plans.
