About The Position

Due to an internal promotion, Northern Star (Pogo) LLC have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a OHST Advisor at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule. The OHST Advisor reports to the OHST Superintendent, and the primary role is to develop and maintain effective safety, health and training programs, providing prescribed MSHA training, ensuring a high standard of record keeping, and monitoring workplace safety through regular inspections within the Pogo OHS Department.

Requirements

  • MSHA Instructor Certification
  • Trained as an Emergency Response Team member
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Five Years progressive relevant work experience required
  • Experience in the mechanized hard rock mining industry
  • MSHA approved instructor card for IU IS, MM
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of occupational safety and health administration programs and of governing rules and regulations
  • Two years college coursework in health and safety or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
  • Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain safety and health standards in compliance with company, OSHA, MSHA regulations and appropriate risk procedures to protect the assets of the company
  • Develop, implement, deliver assess and integrate safety and health training and development processes
  • Conduct regular safety and equipment inspections of work site and inform supervisors of unsafe practices, conditions and possible safety and health hazards
  • Prepare and submit reports to management regarding industrial health performance and highlighting problem areas
  • Coordinate with and accompany inspectors as they audit the operation from a safety and health perspective.
  • Maintain a close relationship with governmental regulatory agencies
  • Implement and ensure compliance with new rules and regulations
  • Respond to site emergencies as part of the Emergency Management Team
  • Plan, organize, direct and administer hazardous materials response, rescue and other emergency services.
