About The Position

The Security Officer 2 performs routine armed security duties on school district property in accordance with standard policies and procedures. The Security Officer 2 performs duties under the general supervision of an immediate supervisor, who evaluates performance through observation of work, periodic conferences, critiques, and/or records of reports. SUPERVISORY EXPECTATIONS: Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS: All employees are expected to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance; to support the District’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan; to engage in civility, respect, and professionalism; and to maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions. Requirements

  • Two years of work experience. Security experience preferred.
  • Satisfactory completion of 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for the one year of experience.
  • Satisfactory completion of a recognized police academy, or satisfactory US military service, or certification as an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Current Florida "D" and "G" Security license or eligibility to obtain these licenses prior to being hired.
  • Additionally, either (1) issuance and continued maintenance of a school guardian certificate by the Hillsborough County Sheriff pursuant to section 30.15(1)(k), Florida Statutes or (2) qualify as a “Law Enforcement Officer” pursuant to section 943.10, Florida Statutes and be certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission within the Department of Law Enforcement.
  • Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
  • Writes routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speaks effectively before groups of individuals.
  • Adds and subtracts two digit numbers and multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s.
  • Performs these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Applies common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Deals with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Standing, walking, running, sitting, climbing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, handling, keyboarding, feeling, talking, hearing, tasting/smelling, and color vision.
  • Up to 70 lbs.; over 70 lbs. must be two person or assisted lift.
  • Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
  • Noise Intensity 3 moderate, extreme cold, extreme heat and wet/humid.
  • Maintain the ability to work any assigned shift (days/evening/midnight hours, weekends and holidays).
  • Compliance with various department regulations concerning physical fitness, psychological testing, background checks (to include employment, credit history, as well as a neighborhood survey) and bearing of and qualification with firearms.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • No criminal history for felony convictions, adjudication withheld, pre-trial intervention, probation or other plea negotiations, or misdemeanor convictions, adjudication withheld, probation, or Misdemeanor Intervention Program for charges involving drugs, sex, or violence.
  • No history of driving under the influence, reckless driving, or unsafe patterns of driving.

  • Security experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls for service that may include burglary, criminal mischief, theft incidents, disturbances/disorders on/in school district facilities, truancy, worthless check collection, campus security, bus stop incidents, and/or traffic control for magnet bus ramps.
  • Enforces school or site traffic and parking regulations and performs routine personnel ground safety accident investigations.
  • Prepares required records and/or offense reports, inspects for fire/safety hazards, answers questions, and guides visitors/guests.
  • Recommends and analyzes information relative to proactive and reactive district security measures and countermeasures.
  • Prepares and reviews for accuracy required records and/or offense reports, and assists local law enforcement agencies as required or requested.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
